Green Business of the Year Award

Staff from Yorkshire Event Centre Limited, the trading arm of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, were celebrating recently when they were awarded the Green Business of the Year Award at the Yorkshire Rural Awards.

The glittering awards ceremony, now in its second year, was hosted by Gervase Phinn with over 200 guests attending on the night, who enjoyed a delicious 3-course dinner, with ingredients sourced from local producers and suppliers.

Robert Whiteley, General Manager of the Yorkshire Event Centre and Pavilions of Harrogate, said, “Given the aims of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, we were naturally ahead in some areas, in particular the conservation projects on the Great Yorkshire Showground and our passion for locally produced food.  However, a great deal has been done to reduce our energy consumption and waste.  Winning this award has made us more determined to continue to develop sustainable conferences and events with the help of our employees, suppliers and event organisers”.

The Society plans to continue to improve its environmental and sustainable credentials and future projects include the new Regional Agricultural Centre, which will incorporate local materials and energy saving systems and the new Farm shop, which will help champion the cause of local food to a wider audience.

Note: Yorkshire Event Centre Limited (YEC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society; all YEC’s profits go to fund the work of this charity.  Throughout the year, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society actively supports farming and rural initiatives and organises the annual Great Yorkshire Show and its sister event, Countryside Live.
